The competition asked for the participants to design an Observatory Houses Resort in a special site in the Center of Italy called Roccascalegna; conformed by a rock mountain with a old Castle and Museum on the top.
The purpose of our proposal is to create both, private resort and public path for the visitor of the Roccascalegna castle and Museum. Also with a dual purpose the project attempts to be a monument the comes out the rock itself while establishing its individuality with a distinguished tinted red concrete.
From that idea, we created a wall that would act as the public connection between the town of Roccascalegna and the Castle, and be the internal circulation of the resort connecting the lobby to the villas and the observing tower.
Two monolithic volumes flank the wall, establishing the beginning and end of the path, specifically oriented to the north star (Lobby) and the sky (Tower).
We divided the Villas to be read as monolithic volumes as well, grouping them by its characteristic size (S, M, L, XL), so project was unified and could be read.
The Raw monolithic nature of the project goes back to the ancient structures such as the Stonehenge and the pyramids, monuments that bridge earth to sky.
